Sustainability and values
Sustainability was at the heart of the design and construction of Aurora. The cedar logs were sustainably sourced with a strict replanting programme in place for seven managed years. Living roofs were incorporated, and over 4500 native broad leaf trees were planted on site. Cabin insulation on both roof and floor was upgraded to reduce ongoing energy requirements.
All lights use low energy fittings, sustainably sourced and packaged toiletries are used where possible and cleaning products reflect their environmental footprint. Aurora’s waste treatment plant is mechanically operated, ensuring wastewater reaches the enhanced 97% clean level before entering a local watercourse under licence.
In addition, the Aurora team plant wildflower areas each year to attract pollinators and have also planted one hectare of wild bird cover to increase the farm bird population.
